Since 2020, our ophthalmology service at the Eureka Medical Center in the city of Bobo Dioulasso, Burkina Faso, has been carrying out a visual screening project for 6th-grade students. This has been made possible thanks to the local staff that Vision Mundi has supported over the years: two ophthalmologists and one optician-optometrist.
The aim of this project is to detect students with visual impairments and provide them with corrective lenses so they can continue their studies normally. Launched on February 12, 2020, the campaign was well received by the Ministry of Health and Education officials, who approved the activity by issuing the required permits. It was also well received by the students, who are the direct beneficiaries of this initiative.
The glasses provided to the students are manufactured on-site in our optical workshop by our optometrist, Sam Georges.
In 2025, 6,956 students aged 10 to 16 were examined.
